Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What style of music do you play?
A. The Recliners play traditional standards from the 20's to the 60's, as well as add in newer
songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Swing tunes, Bossa Novas, Disco as well as Rock. Just
have a look at our SONG LIST!
Some songs are “Reclinerized”, some are straight ahead. You can listen to some
“Reclinerized” examples of songs on our web site music page.
Q. How does the band dress for a wedding or corporate function?
A. The gentlemen in the band wear tuxes.
Q. How long do you typically play for?
A. Our standard time frame is (3) 45-minute sets that span over four hours, but additional time
can be arranged depending on the date, time and location of your party.
Q. What happens when the band takes a break? I don't want my party to stop.
A. The Recliners provide a sound system during intermissions. We have a professional DJ
who will keep the party going during our breaks. You can also submit your own “Break CD”
or iPod that we will play through our system.
Q. I'm concerned about the volume of the band. How can we be sure that The Recliners
won't be too loud?
A. We are experts at keeping the volume just right. During dinner we play a mix of standards,
jazz, easy listening and soft rock at a volume that allows your guests to carry on a
conversation. After dinner, we "crank it up" just enough to get the crowd dancing.
The Recliners bring a state of the art sound system to every gig that provides the highest
quality sound, even at low volumes.
Q. How many breaks do you take?
A. We only take two breaks during the party. Typically, we recommend that we don’t play live
music during dinner, but we can if requested. We start our “first dance” set at about the time
the tables are being cleared from dinner. After that we only take two 15 minute breaks.
Example: Dinner (background music)
Set 1: 8:00 pm – 8:45pm
Set 2: 9:00pm – 9:45pm
Set 3: 10:00pm – 10:45pm
Q. Our first dance song isn't on your song list. Will you learn a special request for us?
A. Depending on the song, we're happy to learn one or two songs as long as you provide us
with a CD or mp3 no later than six weeks prior to the date of your party. However, some
people prefer the original artist's version of their special song. We always have our DJ set-up
available to play a CD of the original artist's version of any song you request.
Q. Do I need to meet with the Band Leader?
A. The event planning can be done over the telephone and via mail and email.
Q. What about music for cocktail hour or for the ceremony?
A. Our DJ handles the music during the cocktail hour and gages the volume and mood
accordingly.
Q. Is it possible to view the band?
A. Due to the nature of our events, we respect the privacy of our clients and therefore viewing
us at a private function is not an option. We perform live in the Richmond areafrequently.
Please check the Shows page of our website for these public dates.
Q. How will you handle the flow of events, the introduction of the bridal party and the
special dances?
A. The Recliners are experienced at working with event coordinators, catering staff and other
venders so you are ensured that the day will run smoothly.
Q. I've decided that I want The Recliners as my band. What happens next?
A. We send you our musical services contract that clearly spells out the terms and conditions.
Your deposit is due along with the signed agreement. You will receive 2 copies of the
agreement; one to keep for your records and one to return with the deposit. The signed
agreement with deposit must be returned to the band within 10 days of the issue date.
Q. I am interested in your band, but I do not live in the Richmond area. Are the The
Recliners willing to travel?
A. Yes, we will travel as long as we are compensated for our travel and lodging. We have
traveled all across the U.S. and even to Paris, France!
Q. Do you have any other helpful hints or suggestions?
A. Yes, here are a few:
To create the right atmosphere, be sure to talk to the host/hostess about dimming the room
lights after the dinner service has been completed. This helps to set the mood for dancing.
For weddings, the tone of the party is most often set by the bride and groom. If you are
dancing and having fun, your guests will follow along and have fun too. While it's appropriate
to spend some time greeting your guests to thank them for attending, don't forget to get out
there and party! Our most successful receptions are those where the bride and groom lead
the way! It's your party - enjoy it!
If your reception requires that the band set up early, we must know that prior to your booking.
Like all of your wedding and private function vendors, we are professionals, but we still need to
be prepared, so avoid last minute surprises. The Recliners band leader, Russell Young, can
work with you on suggestions regarding coordinating the timing and flow of events for your
reception.
Finally, once you've finished your planning, relax and enjoy your event!
With The Recliners, you can rest assured that your entertainment will be the best it can be!
